Does Clean air Help Allergies and Asthma?
Allergies, Asthma and Clean Air:
I'm no doctor, but it seems very silly that a doctor's first choice would be to prescribe medicine to help your body supress it's natural reaction to what you are breating into your system.
Here's my take on the whole thing:
Allergies and asthma attacks are basically your body SCREAMING that it doesn't like what it's getting with each breath of air. Sure, medicine will help to supress the symptoms bringing you temporary relief. And for severe asthmatics, the medicine allows you to manage the attacks and can save lives. But do you really think the medicine is making you any healthier? Any less prone to long term illness and disease? It drives me crazy that the majority of the medical community thinks the only thing to do is prescribe medicine for you.
The only logical thing to do is take control over the air in your home. This should be your first line of defense at eliminating your allergy and asthma attacks and leading a healthier life. I know, I can hear those of you saying that your allergies and asthma attacks happen at work, or outside the home. Obviously in that case, cleaning the air in your home may not solve your problem. But consider this question: Will cleaning the air in your home at least help? I believe it will and here's why…
Allergy and Asthma symptoms usually occur when the body no longer can tolerate the cumulative effect of breathing in indoor and outdoor pollutants day in and day out. So my theory is that if you can minimize the pollutants when you are IN your home, the cumulative effect is greatly reduced, thereby you may have a slightly higher tolerance for the triggers when OUTSIDE of your home.
When it comes to Asthma, don't get me wrong. Medicine is a valid approach, is often required and saves lives.
But lets think about what you can do when you are NOT having an attack. You really should clean the air as best as possible to minimize the chance of having an attack or symptoms in the first place.
Air Cleaning really works!! I know you cannot control the air in the entire world….but you DO have a choice in your own home.
In my next post I'll be talking about the various triggers that cause the allergy and asthma symptoms and attacks and your choices for eliminating those triggers.
